HISTORIA DEL INSO
Desde su fundación en 1991, el INSO ha participado en decenas de iniciativas y proyectos.​​ Algunos ejemplos de estudios son La Lucha por Chimalapas 1987-1992, La Construcción Social de una Percepción Alternativa de Áreas Tropicales de México (1993), Monitoreo del Agua en la Cuenca del Río Atoyac-Salado, y diagnósticos diversos para ordenamientos comunitarios. Entre los proyectos de concertación destacan la Comisión Oaxaqueña de Defensa Ecológica (CODE), el Comité de Representantes de la Cuenca del Manialtepec, el Foro Oaxaqueño del Agua y actualmente el Observatorio Ciudadano y Comunitario de Agua y Medio Ambiente.​​
Nos concentramos sobre todo en los Valles Centrales y la Sierra Juárez de Oaxaca y en menor medida en la Costa. Desde hace varios años el agua ha sido un elemento unificador de nuestros proyectos y de la difusión del instituto. En su fase actual, el proyecto se llama Agua lenta: Regenerando el tejido social y ambiental en los Valles Centrales de Oaxaca.​​​
El INSO ha recibido reconocimientos y premios como nombrar a Aguaxaca iniciativa destacada en la región, por la Comisión de Cooperación Ambiental de América del Norte (2005), estar entre los 20 finalistas del Kyoto World Water Grand Prize (2006), el reconocimiento a la Conservación de la Naturaleza otorgado en 2009 a Pedro Santiago Cruz, aliado nuestro en Aguaxaca, el Premio USB al emprendedor social (2017) y el Premio Lush Spring en la categoría de "Proyectos Establecidos" (2019).
HISTORY OF INSO
Since its foundation in 1991, INSO has participated in dozens of initiatives and projects. Some examples of studies are The Struggle for Chimalapas 1987-1992, The Social Construction of an Alternative Perception of Tropical Areas of Mexico (1993), Water Monitoring in the Atoyac-Salado River Basin, and diverse diagnoses for community planning. Among the concerted projects are the Oaxacan Commission for Ecological Defense (CODE), the Committee of Representatives of the Manialtepec Basin and currently the Oaxacan Water Forum and the Citizen and Community Observatory of Water and the Environment.
We concentrate mainly on the Central Valleys and the Sierra Juárez of Oaxaca and to a lesser extent on the Coast. For several years now, water has been a unifying element of our projects and of the dissemination of the institute. In its current phase, the project is called Slow Water: Regenerating the Social and Environmental Fabric in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca.
INSO has received recognitions and awards such as naming Aguaxaca an outstanding initiative in the region, by the North American Commission on Environmental Cooperation (2005), being among the 20 finalists of the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize (2006), the recognition of Nature Conservation granted in 2009 to Pedro Santiago Cruz, our ally in Aguaxaca, the USB Award for Social Entrepreneur (2017) and the Lush Spring Award in the category of "Established Projects" (2019).
