Desde 2003 nuestro proyecto principal es Aguaxaca, una estrategia integral y concertada para conservar y restaurar los procesos naturales de los Valles Centrales, con el fin de asegurar fuentes regulares de agua buena y al mismo tiempo dar opciones de bienestar sustentable a sus habitantes.
Trabajamos con comuneros e instituciones para conservar las “esponjas” naturales que nos quedan; restaurar las redes de agua potable de ciudades y pueblos; captar nuevamente agua de lluvia; volver más eficiente el riego agrícola; ahorrar y racionar el agua de la ciudad; buscar esquemas justos de pago por los servicios de agua; apoyar a las comunidades que aseguran el mantenimiento del líquido, y devolver el agua usada lo más limpia posible a sus cauces naturales.
En Aguaxaca trabajamos en cinco líneas: La Foto, La Mesa, El Plan, Las Herramientas y La Voz.
LA FOTO
Con este nombre nos referimos a todas las actividades relacionadas con investigar, reunir y enriquecer la información relativa a la cuenca en sus aspectos natural y social, es decir, todo lo que nos permita tener una ‘fotografía’ lo más clara posible, que sirva de base para planeación.
LA MESA
La concertación es fundamental en nuestros proyectos. A esto llamamos la mesa porque nos sentamos a debatir con todos los actores involucrados, en busca de acuerdos y compromisos. Tenemos distintas ‘mesas’, según el asunto particular de que se trate, pero la principal es el Foro Oaxaqueño del Agua.
El PLAN
A partir de la información que reunimos y de los acuerdos logrados en las mesas elaboramos un ‘plan’, es decir, diseñamos estrategias para regular la actividades que se llevan a cabo en la cuenca y proponemos las “reglas del juego” –qué tanto de cada cosa debe haber para que todos vivamos mejor y la naturaleza de recupere y se conserve.
LAS HERRAMIENTAS
Llamamos de manera general ‘herramientas’ a cualquier medio que nos permite lograr el objetivo de que la naturaleza se conserve y la gente viva mejor. Esto incluye tecnologías alternativas o incluso procesos y métodos para fines específicos. Buscamos que las herramientas sean demostrativas y estén vinculadas con nuestro programa de capacitación.
LA VOZ
Con este término nos referimos a todas las actividades de difusión, comunicación y en general socialización, tanto de conocimientos e información como de actividades y avances de nuestros proyectos.
En cada una de estas líneas se han hecho avances significativos. Actualmente se cuenta con un mejor conocimiento de la cuenca, que se refleja en el libro Un Plan Común para un Bien Común, publicado en febrero de 2014; se ha consolidado el Foro Oaxaqueño del Agua; se constituyó el Fondo para el Buen Uso del Agua y la Producción Sustentable que ha apoyado a muchos productores; se han replicado en diversos lugares las acciones que ponemos en práctica en el Centro Demostrativo de Permacultura El Pedregal, y se ha continuado el programa amplio de difusión.
Aguaxaca
Since 2003 our main project has been Aguaxaca, which is an integral and concerted strategy directed towards the conservation and restoration of natural processes in the Central Valleys. The purpose of the project is to secure regular sources of good water and, at the same time, provide options for the sustainable wellbeing of inhabitants.
We work with community members and institutions in order to conserve the natural “sponges” that are still available to us, restore the networks of potable water in the cities and towns, capture new rainwater, return irrigation water with greater efficiency, store and ration the city water, support the communities that ensure its maintenance, and return used water as cleanly as possible to its natural sources.
In Aguaxaca there are five lines of work: The Photo, The Table, The Plan, The Tools, and The Voice.
THE PHOTO
By ‘photo’ we refer to all of the activities related to the investigation, reunion, and enrichment of information related to the natural and social aspects of the watershed, that is, everything that provides us with the clearest possible ‘photograph’. This serves as our foundation for formulating plans.
THE TABLE
Consensus building is fundamental to our projects. We call this line of work ‘the table’ because we sit down with all of the involved parties and engage in discussion in search of agreements and compromises. We have distinct ‘tables’, according to the particular subject being dealt with, but the most important is the Oaxacan Water Forum.
THE PLAN
From the information that we gather from the agreements that are achieved at the ‘tables’, we form a ‘plan’. That is, we formulate strategies in order to regulate the activities that are affected in the watershed and propose the “rules of the game”—that everything is done in a way such that everyone lives better and the natural world is recovered and conserved.
THE TOOLS
We generally give the name ‘tools’ to whatever methods allow us to achieve the goal of promoting the conservation of nature and the greater wellbeing of the people. This includes alternative technologies or processes and methods for dedicated to specific purposes. We look to ensure that the tools are demonstrative and that they are linked with our training program.
THE VOICE
With this term, we refer to all of the activities related to the spread of information, communication and, in general, socialization, as well as the knowledge and information, such as that related to activities and advances in our projects.
In each of these lines of work, significant advances have been made. Currently we have a better understanding of the watershed, which is reflected in the book A Common Plan for a Common Good, published in February of 2014; the Oaxacan Water Forum has been consolidated; the Fund for the Good Use of Water and Sustainable Production was established, which has supported many producers; the methods that we put in practice in El Pedregal Permaculture Demonstration Center have been replicated in diverse locations, and the broad program of diffusion of information has continued.
